Description
This Taormina, Savoca and Forza d'Agrò tour from Messina fills a whole day with the scenery of eastern Sicily, and it is designed with cruise passengers in mind. You travel privately in a comfortable Mercedes minivan with seven or eight seats, with air conditioning, wi-fi and water, and the timing and route can be adapted to make the most of your time in port.
Your driver can also act as guide, in English or Spanish. The stops are:
- Taormina, set on Mount Tauro like a natural terrace over the sea, among ancient ruins
- Castelmola, a small village whose main square looks across the Ionian coast, from Taormina's bays all the way to Mount Etna and the Calabrian shore
- Isola Bella, the pebble beach at the foot of the town, facing the islet of the same name
- Savoca and Forza d'Agrò, also on the route
- In Messina, the Sacrario di Cristo Re, an octagonal baroque building with a large dome, and a short stop at the Cathedral with its astronomical clock
Along the route you taste typical Sicilian sweets, and there are plenty of chances to stop and take photographs. Food and other drinks are extra, as are the tickets for the Greek-Roman theatre of Taormina and for Villa Isola Bella. Comfortable clothing and sports shoes are recommended, and the tour is not suited to people with heart problems.
