Description
This Etna wine tour from Taormina is a private day for your own party, in an air-conditioned car or minivan with a friendly English-speaking driver and guide. You are picked up at your accommodation or the port and head into the small mountain villages around the volcano, with orange and lemon groves, olive and almond trees and houses and churches built of lava stone along the way.
The volcanic soil, fed by Etna's eruptions, is what makes Etna grapes so good, and the three wineries you visit have wines on the lists of well-known wine associations. A sommelier leads you at each one:
- First winery, small and authentic: the wine-making process, three Etna DOC wines and bread rolls with sun-dried tomatoes and olives
- Second winery: four regional wines with a traditional tagliere and a Sicilian pasta dish
- Third winery: red and white wines with local cheeses, cured meats, olives, olive oil and fresh bread
In all, you taste ten wines, white, rosé and red, and food is served at every stop. Your guide takes you back to your accommodation when the tasting ends. Gratuities are optional.
