Description
On this Segway tour in Messina you glide through a city rebuilt from scratch after the earthquake of 1908, with a qualified guide telling its story at each stop. The three hours begin with a 30-minute orientation, so you are comfortable on the machine before setting off, and no driving licence is needed.
The route begins on Via Castellammare, beside the Catalani Church, and rolls on to the commercial heart of the city at Piazza Cairoli and to Piazza Pugliatti, home of the Court of Justice and the university. In Piazza Duomo you find Orion's fountain and the Cathedral, whose bell tower holds an astronomical clock unveiled in 1933.
- SS. Annunziata dei Catalani, with baroque fountains in front
- The monument to Don Juan of Austria on Via Lepanto
- San Francesco d'Assisi, a medieval church
- The fountain of Neptune by Montorsoli in Piazza Unità d'Italia
Along the way you pass Piazza Antonello with its neoclassical palaces, the baroque Monte di Pietà and the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele. The route can be adjusted on the spot with your guide: a shopping stretch on Viale San Martino, the panorama from Montalto Church or a visit to the North Coast Museum. Rain ponchos are provided, a helmet is optional, and the tour runs in any weather. It is not suitable for children under 16, pregnant women or people with mobility impairments.
