Description

It is dedicated to Antonello da Messina, one of the most important Italian painters, who was born in Messina.

The construction of the multi-purpose center, an inverted pyramid, was delayed by various unfortunate events. It was designed in 1975 by the engineer Aldo D’Amore and the architect Fabio Basile, but it was completed and opened in 2010. The work went slowly due to construction problems, including the discovery of some Roman archeological relics.

Three buildings form the multi-purpose center. On the ground floor, there is a foyer and a theatre made up of 4 audience stalls that can hold 850 people, the orchestra pit, and the television production room. There are also two congress halls (one on the second and one on the first floor), an open-air auditorium and several municipal offices.

It is also known as “Palacultura”; it is used for musical and theatrical events and  holds the municipal library and the historic archives of Messina.
