Description
This Messina street food tour is three hours of walking from one counter to the next, led by a guide who knows the city's food. Between tastings you walk past the Cathedral and the Catalans' church, and you time the walk so you are in the square when the astronomical clock's statues start to move.
You eat at food stalls, pastry shops and bars around town, and the menu covers the classics of the Sicilian table:
- granita with a brioche
- arancini, focaccia and cannoli
- a regional craft beer like Birra dello Stretto, or a soft drink instead
The guide shares the history and culture of Messina, and explains why in Sicily food stands for friendship, sharing and a way of living. Come hungry and skip breakfast: there is a lot to eat. Vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free eaters are catered for, and so are other intolerances if you warn the organisers beforehand.
The route stays on flat ground, though you do walk quite a bit. It is not suitable for people with diabetes. Transport and personal expenses are not included, and tips are optional.
